There’s a lot of buzz around “scarless” or endoscopic facelifts lately. You may have seen influencers or even some surgeons touting them as the next evolution in facial rejuvenation. And while it’s always exciting to see innovation in aesthetic surgery, let’s pause and ask the important question:

Are endoscopic facelifts actually better — or just newer?

As a facial plastic surgeon in Austin, I get this question from patients who want subtle, natural-looking results without the “tight” or overly pulled look of traditional facelifts. And while the idea of smaller incisions and a faster recovery sounds great in theory, what matters most is how the face is lifted — not just how it’s accessed.

What Is an Endoscopic Facelift?

An endoscopic facelift uses a small camera (endoscope) and tiny incisions hidden in the hairline to reposition deeper facial tissues. It’s often marketed as “less invasive,” but it’s typically best for patients in their 30s or 40s with very early signs of aging.

In other words: it’s not a true full facelift — and it won’t deliver the kind of lasting, structural rejuvenation many people are looking for.

Why I Perform Deep Plane Facelifts Instead

The deep plane facelift goes beyond the surface. It lifts the deeper layers of the face — including the SMAS and ligaments — for a more profound, natural-looking result that doesn’t look pulled or tight.

Here’s why I believe it’s the gold standard:

  • Natural movement and expression (you’ll still look like you)
  • Longer-lasting results
  • Less skin tension = smoother healing and more discreet scars
  • Releases facial ligaments that are key to youthful structure

In skilled hands, a deep plane facelift is incredibly elegant — and it doesn’t have to mean a long, difficult recovery.

So What’s Right for You?

Every face is unique, and so is every facelift. If you’re in your 40s, 50s, or beyond and want to look like yourself — just more rested, lifted, and confident — a deep plane approach may give you more of what you’re hoping for than the trendy endoscopic route.

If you’re curious, I’d love to talk. My practice in Austin is built on honesty, precision, and giving you results that feel like you — just refreshed.
