The FDA-approved Daxi injections are designed for individuals who are 18 years of age or older. Many people seeking neuromodulator treatment to address lines and wrinkles are in their late twenties to early sixties. Younger patients frequently choose to have neuromodulator injections to prevent the onset of wrinkles resulting from muscle movement. By preventing the onset of dynamic wrinkles, their likelihood of developing deep lines in the treatment areas decreases.

A neuromodulator is a neurotoxin that is injected into a particular muscle to limit its range of motion by causing the muscle to relax. Using a neurotoxin to relax specific muscles can help rejuvenate the face.

A neuromodulator injection blocks the communication signals that cause the treated muscle to move or contract. Besides rejuvenating the face, limiting the movement of muscles that contribute to the formation of dynamic wrinkles discourages the deepening of fine lines and wrinkles already present in the treatment areas.

Dynamic wrinkles result from muscle movement and contractions, which is why relaxing specific muscles with a neuromodulator can help rejuvenate the face.

Dynamic wrinkles include glabellar lines (aka 11s and frown lines), crow’s feet, and the horizontal lines that develop across the forehead are the most common areas. Other less common injections can occur in neck bands, wrinkles around the mouth, and muscles that cause frowning.

Following DAXXIFY®’s release, many patients may decide to have Daxi instead of the other neuromodulators currently available (e.g., BOTOX®, Xeomin, Dysport®, Jeuveau). The longevity of Daxi’s results is the main reason patients choose DAXXIFY® over the other neurotoxins. The results achieved by Daxi have been shown to last on average around one to one and a half months longer than the result an individual gets with their usual neuromodulator of choice.

Although the current neuromodulators offer amazing results, these results are relatively short-lived. The results that are achieved with current neurotoxins usually last about three to four months. Therefore, after receiving injections, patients who want to maintain their rejuvenated appearance must return several times a year for follow-up injections. Over time, DAXXIFY® may be preferred because this product offers similar but longer lasting results.

On average patients who receive Daxi injections will return for follow-up injections two to three times a year, some patients may only need to return to the Buckingham Center for Facial Plastic Surgery in Austin, Texas, for maintenance injections once or twice a year.

Patients who are not receiving any other botulinum toxin products can safely receive Daxi injections once their current neuromodulator treatment has faded.

For the most part, the longevity of a patient’s results depends on the brand of neurotoxin they receive and the speed of their metabolism. For example, individuals who have a fast metabolism may notice that they need to return to the Buckingham Center, to have their maintenance injections sooner rather than later.

Glabellar lines are typically caused by the repetitive movement of the procerus muscle and the corrugator supercilii muscles.

• How frequently they make facial expressions that cause movement of the procerus and corrugator supercilii muscles

As an individual makes certain facial expressions, the procerus muscle and the corrugator supercilii muscles begin to move or contract. These muscle movements and contractions cause the skin on the forehead and in between the eyebrows to move as well.

As the procerus muscle and corrugator muscles move and contract, they compress the glabella skin, and the uneven edges of the moving muscles result in the development of lines. It is the repetitive movement or contractions of these muscles that cause glabellar lines to form.

According to the clinical trials that led up to its FDA approval, the results achieved with Daxi injections are comparable to those seen with BOTOX® injections; however, DAXXIFY® on average can last longer.

At this time, DAXXIFY® is approved by the FDA for treating moderate to severe glabellar lines. Nonetheless, most experienced cosmetic providers will be comfortable using Daxi off-label to address the horizontal lines across the forehead as well as the crow’s feet that develop near the outer corner of each eye.

Daxi has been shown to last on average one to one and a half times longer than the longevity of a patient’s typical neuromodulator treatment duration.

When a neuromodulator travels, it can cause muscles in different areas of the face to relax. Relaxing the muscles surrounding the treatment areas can cause the face to appear asymmetrical.

Patients must avoid lying down, jumping around, bending over, and massaging or manipulating the treatment areas for at least two hours following their Daxi injection treatment session at the Buckingham Center for Facial Plastic Surgery in Austin, Texas.
