Facial Augmentation Procedure
Chin and cheek enhancement surgery are relatively common surgical procedures. They can be performed alone, together, or in conjunction with another facial augmentation treatment, such as rhinoplasty to add more projection to the chin, neck liposuction, or a facelift, to bring into balance the aesthetic proportions of the face. Dr. Buckingham performs chin and cheek augmentation for individuals who are dissatisfied with the size of their chin or who have weak chin, or double chin or flat cheekbones. During a private consultation, Dr. Buckingham performs a facial analysis to determine if a cheek or chin implant would help the patient achieve their cosmetic goals.
Dr. Buckingham finds that Implantech cheek implants have significant advantages over other FDA-approved cheek implants, and he recommends these custom implants for patients looking to add definition and enhance the cheekbones. Patients who have good underlying bone structure but who are experiencing facial aging may benefit from facelift and/or facial lipocontouring using a facial fat transfer.
Dr. Buckingham uses a silicone implant during chin augmentation to provide natural-looking results and to add aesthetic balance to the face. The chin implant procedure can be combined with other cosmetic procedures for optimal results. The procedure can also be combined with fat removal along the jawline or on the neck to enhance the chin and add definition .
What to Expect During the Facial Augmentation Procedure
The chin implant procedure takes approximately 60 minutes and is performed using a local anesthetic with or without oral sedation. A small incision is conspicuously placed along the crease below the chin, through which Dr. Buckingham inserts the chin implant. Dr. Buckingham then positions the implant and anchors it in place with carefully placed sutures.
The cheek implant procedure takes approximately one to two hours to complete and is performed using IV sedation. Dr. Buckingham creates a small incision on the inside of each cheek to insert the implants, which are placed into a pocket located within the targeted area of the cheek. The implants are safely secured so that they will maintain the correct position, and the incisions are closed with sutures.
Dr. Buckingham may recommend further contouring of the cheek and jawline with facial lipocontouring using a facial fat transfer. The facial augmentation will lift and tighten the cheeks and/or restore lost fat to the cheeks. Dr. Buckingham places a minimally invasive, tiny incision in the belly area to remove fat cells, which he then adds to the cheek and face using 1mm micro cannulas to restore youthful contours. No facial incisions are involved in the transfer.
Cheek and chin augmentations may be combined with another cosmetic treatment, such as fat removal from the chin or neck, a facelift, dermal fillers, or more. Dr. Buckingham creates a customized treatment plan for each patient during the consultation.
Facial Augmentation Recovery
Patients should expect the chin implant recovery to take approximately two weeks. Swelling or bruising are common, but these typically resolve within two weeks. Some mild to moderate discomfort can be experienced, but Dr. Buckingham will prescribe the appropriate pain medication to keep the patient comfortable during the recovery. Dietary restrictions may be necessary initially, as well. Patients typically are ready to return to work or school within one week. Strenuous exercise should be postponed for two to three weeks as well.
Cheek augmentation recovery takes approximately two weeks. Patients may experience some initial swelling and bruising on the cheeks and under the eyes, which will fade over one to two weeks. Patients must keep their head elevated and apply cold compresses to minimize potential swelling. Mild pain is common, but Dr. Buckingham prescribes appropriate medications to help his patients heal comfortably at home. Patients frequently feel well enough to return to work within one week. Strenuous exercise should be postponed for two to three weeks.
Facial Augmentation Expectations
Chin and cheek implants improve and enhance facial contours and add symmetry and beauty to the face. Chin implants look natural and they can bring the face into balance by plumping the cheeks and adding definition to the chin or the jaw. Dr. Buckingham provides each patient with digital imagery during their consultation and creates a customized surgical plan, which correctly matches their treatment with their goals and expectations.
Facial Augmentation Consultation
During a chin or cheek augmentation, Dr. Buckingham completes a facial analysis with the use of digital imaging. Digital imaging allows him to determine the best procedure to meet his male or female patients’ goals and expectations. At this time, Dr. Buckingham will also address any questions or concerns that his patient may have.
The Ideal Facial Augmentation Candidate
The ideal facial augmentation patient is a nonsmoker who is in good health and has realistic surgical goals. Patients who are frustrated with flat cheekbones, a small chin, or disproportionate features can benefit from this surgery. A good chin or cheek augmentation candidate may have poor facial asymmetry or may desire to improve harmony between all of their facial features.
Facial Augmentation Cost
The cost of chin or cheek augmentations vary and are dependent on the details of the surgery and on additional procedures that may be performed along with the implant surgery. Dr. Buckingham works with each patient to offer affordable options.
