BBL® HEROic™ at the Buckingham Center for Facial Plastic Surgery

BBL HEROic (High Energy Rapid Output with Intelligent Control) is Sciton's latest advancement in pulsed light technology. It builds on the proven science of BroadBand Light and adds automated intelligence that makes each treatment more consistent, more comfortable, and more efficient than any previous generation of the device. At the Buckingham Center, BBL HEROic is available for both face and full-body treatments, delivered by our specialized laser team.

What Sets BBL® HEROic™ Apart From Standard BBL and IPL

The original BBL was already a significant step beyond conventional IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). It delivered faster results, more consistent outcomes, and broader skin condition coverage. BBL HEROic builds on that with two breakthrough technologies built directly into the handpiece.

  • Intelligent Control (IC) acts as the device's processing center. It reads spatial data in real time, automatically adjusting pulse placement based on how the handpiece is moving, angled, or oriented. Pulses are placed accurately regardless of the provider's speed or direction, eliminating gaps, stripes, or pulse stacking that can occur with manual devices.
  • Skin Positioning System (SPS) is a motion-tracking sensor that provides real-time, three-dimensional data on the handpiece's position and orientation across six axes. SPS and IC work together to ensure every pulse lands exactly where it should, consistently, across flat surfaces and curved anatomical areas alike.

The result is a treatment that removes the variability from pulsed-light delivery and replaces it with automated precision.

What BBL® HEROic™ Treats

BBL HEROic uses light energy to target the pigment and vascular structures, called chromophores, that are responsible for the concerns most patients want addressed. It effectively treats:

  • Brown spots, sun damage, and age spots
  • Redness, rosacea, and facial flushing
  • Vascular lesions, telangiectasia, and cherry angiomas
  • Uneven skin tone and dull complexion
  • Early signs of skin aging

The SkinSmooth 640S filter, available as part of the HEROic system, provides a finishing layer that improves skin luminosity and overall smoothness, making it an ideal complement to pigment and vascular treatments in the same session. Treatment areas include the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, back, legs, and body.

Who Is a Candidate for BBL® HEROic™?

BBL HEROic is appropriate for Fitzpatrick skin types I through V. It is well-suited for patients who want to address sun damage and tone concerns with minimal disruption to their schedules, as most patients return to normal activities immediately following treatment.

It is also a strong option for patients pursuing ongoing skin health maintenance, as regular BBL treatments have been studied for their effects on the signs of skin aging over time.

What to Expect During and After Treatment

BBL HEROic's CoolComfort technology keeps the skin's surface cool during treatment, and topical numbing is typically not required. Treatment times for large areas, including the full face or the arms and chest, take a matter of minutes.

Immediately following treatment, patients may notice mild redness that resolves within a few hours. There is no significant downtime. Pigmented spots may darken slightly in the days following treatment before naturally flaking away. Patients typically see improvement in tone and clarity within one to two weeks.

Pairing BBL® HEROic™ With Other Treatments

BBL HEROic pairs naturally with resurfacing treatments for patients who want to address both tone and texture in the same appointment. Combining HEROic with HALO or MOXI as part of a ScitonStaX protocol allows the Buckingham Center team to address pigmentation, vascular concerns, and skin texture in a single coordinated visit. For patients focused on photodamage alone, BBL HEROic as a standalone treatment delivers meaningful results with a simple recovery and a quick return to daily life.
