Bilateral otoplasty, ear lobe reduction
This patient is a 67 year-old female who presented in clinic interested in reducing the size of her earlobes as well as superior ear pinning. On physical examination and upon review of both her frontal and lateral before photos, she has a slight underdevelopment of the antihelical folds in the superior aspect of the helix bilaterally. She additionally has prominent earlobes.
She decided to undergo a bilateral otoplasty with ear lobe reduction. This procedure was performed in the office with oral sedation and local anesthetic.
The patient was very pleased with the aesthetic modifications. Whereas in the frontal view the ears stuck out beyond her hair and were quite noticeable; now the set-back ears are no longer a distraction. The oblique view demonstrates how the lobule was over-sized and pendulous. Following reduction the lobule is smaller and no longer aged in appearance.
